HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

PORTLAND, OREGON
HWD serves Portland's industrial districts: Swan Island, Rivergate, the Columbia Corridor, the Northwest industrial area, Gresham and Troutdale. We work with shipyards, manufacturers, metal finishers, contractors and public agencies, from a few drums to bulk vacuum-truck loads, under Oregon DEQ rules.
We do not service household hazardous or non-hazardous waste. Businesses, institutions and government facilities only. Portland residents should use Metro's household hazardous waste program.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL IN PORTLAND, OR
Hazardous Waste Disposal for Portland Shipyards, Manufacturers and Contractors
Portland's industrial base sits along the rivers: ship repair and marine fabrication on Swan Island, heavy manufacturing and distribution at Rivergate, and metalworking, coatings and food processing through the Columbia Corridor. The waste follows the work: paint and solvent, blast media, oily water, plating and rinse liquids, and the drums of rags and debris that pile up behind every shop.
Shipyards and Marine Coatings
Flammable paint liquids and thinners, sludge-heavy paint waste, spent blast media, and drums of rags and debris from hull and deck work. Liquids are profiled for fuel blending or thermal treatment based on BTU and sludge content, and everything ships together on one e-Manifest with LDR notifications.
Metal Finishing and Plating Liquids
Spent plating baths, rinse waters, acids and caustics, and filter press sludge. For high-volume liquids we bring a vacuum trailer with an operator, solidify the load for disposal, and wash the tank so the line is ready to refill.
Contractors and Facility Renovations
General contractors working inside industrial sites run into abandoned totes, unknown drums and leftover process chemicals. We sample what can't be identified, test for flash point, VOCs and pH, profile each stream, and manifest under the facility's site ID so the project file is complete.
Tanks, Sumps and Vaults
120-barrel vacuum trucks with crews for tank, sump and separator cleanouts. We pump, wash and haul the industrial wastewater and solids to a permitted treatment facility, usually in a single day.
Aerosols, Batteries and Universal Waste
Cases of aerosols packed for incineration, lithium and lead-acid batteries, fluorescent lamps, ballasts and electronic equipment. These are handled under universal waste rules, so they don't count toward your hazardous waste totals or push you into a higher generator category.
Lab Packs and Unknown Containers
University, clinic and R&D labs around the metro accumulate aged reagents, unlabeled bottles and small containers that can't go in a drum together. We run field hazcat on unknowns, segregate by compatibility, and pack everything into DOT-compliant lab packs with a full inventory for your records.
Used Oil, Coolants and Oily Water
Fleet shops, rail yards and machine shops generate used oil, antifreeze, cutting fluids and oily wash water. Used oil is halogen-tested and sent for recycling, and coolants and wash water go to permitted treatment, so these streams stay out of your hazardous waste counts where the rules allow.
Drum Programs and One-Time Cleanouts
Recurring pickups keep your accumulation area inside its 90- or 180-day window. Drums that don't match their profile are caught and re-profiled before they leave the yard. For a one-time cleanout, we plan around Oregon's rule that your heaviest month sets your generator status for the whole year.
PORTLAND METRO
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Portland generators also deal with DEQ's annual reporting and, for small and large quantity generators, a toxics use and hazardous waste reduction plan. The weights, waste codes and disposal methods we return with every shipment are the numbers both of those are built on.
Need an EPA site ID before your first shipment? We help you get it through DEQ as part of the project, and profiles carry forward so a repeat pickup doesn't start from scratch.
We cover the whole metro: Portland, Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, Milwaukie, Clackamas, Tigard, Beaverton, Hillsboro and Vancouver, WA. For statewide coverage, see our Oregon page.
